DIY Solid Wood Shelves and Rich Color Make a Big Difference! See How It Turned Out …

This tiny room off the entry had nice windows but not much else. After mulling it over, homeowners Chris and Julia came up with a plan to transform the space into a cozy, functional and beautiful room perfect for reading, playing music and hanging out.

To house the sconces they built a soffit, which adds dimension to the room and frames the wall-to-wall shelves they added. While these appear to be floating shelves, they’re not; the thick solid wood fir are too heavy for that, but the couple devised a clever solution with small brackets along the the back and sides that are all but invisible. A paint job in a bold but sophisticated shade of green creates a warm, intimate feel.

Want to recreate this look for your own space? Read how they did it on their blog Chris Loves Julia.
