These Are Just ‘Beachy’!

Keep a bit of summer around a little bit longer with colorful “beachy” coasters.

All you need is concrete or fast-set cement, round molds or another shape of your choosing, and colored stones, the kind normally used to fill and decorate vases.

In the video, by Mona at Craft Klatch, she used glass gems in beachy colors. But your choice of shades and styles are almost limitless. Check out some other great options here.

You could also sprinkle in seashells and the like to your design. Just test out the coaster with a glass or mug before the cement sets and you can still make adjustments to be sure your drinks won’t topple over!

And if you have any leftover concrete, you might want to make mosaic garden stepping stones while you’re at it. (These are so pretty.)

One thing not mentioned in the tutorial below is a sealant or glaze of some kind. We rather like the rough “sandy” look to the bare concrete, but a shiny seal would look great, too.

Another thing you might want to consider is a round of felt on the bottom of the coaster to protect your table tops.

Check out the video to see how to make these easy beachy DIY coasters.
