Just $800 to Go from Drab to Fab

Kitchens sell. Any Realtor will tell you so.

What they really mean are nice, bright, shiny, new kitchens sell. Kitchens like Erica’s? Hmm, not so much.

In truth it wasn’t terrible. But in an effort to fulfill their dream of selling their house and moving out to the country, Erica and her husband set out to transform their dark, dull, ’90s-throwback kitchen for as little moolah as possible. Erica explains:

Okay, it’s not like unlivable awful, but it certainly isn’t going to make anyone go, ‘Whoa. We should buy this house. This kitchen is amaze-balls!’

That would not have happened.

With little DIY experience, they replaced the dated laminate counters with Aspen wood, made a subway-tile backsplash, covered the ugly almond-colored range hood, created chic open shelving, added hardware, painted and more — all for about $800. Amazing!
