Cover Your Ceiling Using Old Pallets

Even if you don’t have an ugly popcorn ceiling you want to cover up, you might want to try giving your space a warm, rustic look by recycling wood pallets.

Pallets are not that difficult to find and often can be had for free — you can ask around or try Craigslist, for example — and this fact makes this project less expensive than purchasing lumber. Repurposing pallets also makes this a green home improvement project.

You’ll have to break down the pallets, of course, but cutting the nails instead of prying them off will make this task easier. Also, only remove the boards that are in the best shape, ones that are not cracked or warped, and don’t bother with the rest.

Because the planks will be inconsistent, gaps will show through. This adds to the rustic character of this diy pallet ceiling. Nevertheless, you can make the imperfections less obvious by either painting the ceiling first with a dark color similar to the wood or covering it first with inexpensive particleboard, which will also provide a dark background.
